Several weeks ago, while in Chicago, I had the opportunity to visit the Art Institute. This was my second visit to the museum, which is one of the most important and impressive art museums in the country. My last visit was in 2008, prior to the opening of the new modern wing. The modern wing would be an impressive museum in itself and I ended up spending most of my time exploring its galleries.
I also had the opportunity to see their current retrospective show of Roy Lichtenstein’s work. While I of course know who Lichtenstein is, I am going to admit that I haven’t followed him or his work closely and so it was fun to explore such a large body of his work with uninitiated eyes. I particularly liked his “parodies” of great work from art history (George Washington Crossing the Delaware, Picasso, etc.).
If you haven’t been to the Art Institute lately, I highly recommend a visit. Below are some photos of the visit in no particular order.
