I recently received this email from an artist I met in DC this winter. It’s always great to hear from artists who are making it happen!
Good news should be shared. Since reading your book, listening to you talk about gallery representation and reading The Artist empowered, I have a whole new feel, attitude about my art. And since i doubled my prices I have sold seven pieces. Tonight I am being interviewed for a gallery in DC and next Wed. I will be interviewed for a gallery in DC region.
Can life be much better than that? Thank you for getting me started.

I’m happy for Phyllis, but wanted to make the observation that getting into a gallery is hardly the end of the journey. In my experience that elation is quickly followed by a re-setting of the bar, and the concern becomes sales. Success is a relative and elusive thing. I have succeeded in gaining representation in seven galleries, but at this moment the paintings appear to be nailed to the walls and sales aren’t what they should be! “Can life be much better than that?” was asked, and I would answer that my artistic life is never better than when I’m the midst of creating a fulfilling body of work (and sometimes that is harder than getting into a gallery!).
